The Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Trust

We support the Oliver Fisher Neonatal Unit at Medway Maritime Hospital, a place for premature & poorly babies.

About us

Our charity was formed in 1985 to support the Oliver Fisher Neonatal Unit with funding, hoping to improve the care and outcomes, not just of babies, but their families too.

We are all incredibly lucky to live in a country with a National Health Service. However, it is a truth that there is a divide in public and private healthcare and, where the NHS may be restricted in funding, our aim is to help bridge that gap. Over the years, our work has not only funded essential equipment such as ventilators, monitors and specialist cots but has gone a lot further. Funds raised have gone towards things such as sensory lighting to improve the environment in the wards, the commissioning of a Transitional Care Ward and more recently to creating a bereavement suite to allow private support of families going through their hardest moments. In everyday life on the unit, we can provide things to families, basic amenities like refreshments through to assistance with travel expenses to help parents visit their babies daily.

A NICU journey needs to be about the patient and their family because a NICU journey impacts them all. Our ultimate goal is to provide a gold standard of care during some of life's toughest moments; to help in all the best ways we can.
